Damn Fine Glass Jobs (Or...The French are coming!)
These kids live in the small village of Bidart, just outside of Biarittz and in addition to surfboards, they have an extreme fascination with American culture...primarily on California HotRod culture and all that goes with it.
They dreamed of visiting the US and I saw a much better than average version of technical color and finish work in their versions of resin tint/pigment and gloss/polish work.
We made a plan for them to come to SC and build 40 boards in the glass shop at Catalyst. Tristian got this bone leg tattoo in Venice Beach on day three in the states.
Paul, at work glassing on the first day.
This Pink tint/opaque white Bottom Feeder is for non other than Stab Magazine editor, Derek Rielly. It should be all the rage on the more than liberal beaches of Bondi!
Full on HotRod styling on the gloss Black with lime tint Plank.
Brown tint Bottom feeder. Not the gloss/polish bottom and rails with matte deck and only the logos are spot glossed and polished. Very technical.
This all Lime tint BF features spot gloss n polish tonal stripes on the deck. The rest of the board is Matte.
Another BF. this one has SubScorcher stripes, but done is resin tints and once again, spot gloss n polish logos on a matte deck. the bottom and rails are polished as well. Other details include matching blue resin in the leash cup.
Another Bottom Feeder with two tone neon tints and spot gloss high lights. The board hes laminating is an idea we came up with this week...checker board effect.
This "UberPlank" is violet/lime tints and completely gloss/polished.
deep rich colors on this one.
Paul, on the left, Is a big quite kid with too much skill. He laminates all the boards. He is the color man. he also is a fantastic illustrator who has been doin a few tee designs for me as well.He builds his own line of high end wooden boards "Black Deer Surfboards" (google it) that are nothing short of amazing.
Tristian, on the right, is a small stature , talkative kid who does all the fill coat, fins and sanding...then glosses and polishes all the boards. He's into film and all the hip things young guys do these days...just with a French accent. When not working they have been going to HotRod and vintage car shows, gluttonizing on any and all American junk food, getting tattos and barber shops cuts... and catching the odd wave or two.
We are half way through making 40 stock boards. A mix of Bottom feeders, Planks, UberPlanks, RockUps and Larger size (6'6-7'0) SubDriver round tails. We have gotten a few custom orders on top of that as well.
they are here for a few more weeks, so if anyone wants some thing, contacting Catalyst, or having your local dealer contact our customer service is the best way to get one.
