Busy day down unda'
With the start of the new WTour season under way I put in a lot of computer staring over the last couple days.
Here's what's happend thus far from my completely biased opinion. In the girls, Both Carissa Moore and Malia Manuel (In her first WT event) won first round heats. CM told me she was liking her new "CMGrovler" 5'9.5 18.38 2.18, which is her CMPro with width added to the hips and nose of the outline and a wider tail block. I actually thought the tail looked a bit wide in the heat.http://roxylive.com/roxyprogoldcoast/2012/#quality=med&round=223&heat=253Malia Won her first heat ever as a WT competitor. Don't know which of her new boards she was riding.

-In Round two, Little Sylvana Lima from Brazil went berserko on a 5'4 Sub Scorcher and was tossing downs 8's and 9's.

---In the Mens we had some ups and downs..
Round one was mostly downs. Taj was on a mutated Whiplash and looked good but didnt get the waves he needed.

Kolohe drew Slater, and while KA was tossing tail KS was pulling into and flying out of thick dredging tubes. It looked like Kolohe has a chance at a big score but was unable to pull into a tube right off the take off.
You can see that and also Slaters mastery and his round pin held it so well and fit the waves perfectly here..

Julian came up short as well. He went out on the F1stub he won the Burliegh Pro on a couple weeks back. I liked how solid he looked on it, but he didn't get the waves.

Round two things got a bit better...
-Taj was up first and just completely went to town against Dane Reynolds (I suppose you have to) . Couldnt find any photos, but the video is good stuff, here....http://quiksilverlive.com/progoldcoast/2012/heat_review.en.html#quality=med&round=205&heat=293
Taj has Travis in Rnd 3. file://localhost/Users/mattbiolos/Desktop/Screen%20shot%202012-02-26%20at%2012.36.39%20PM.png -Travis Logie , riding the same board (Taj Burrows trade back Driver) that he used for some of his best heats last season, was electric and used his quick surfing and Alejos mistakes, to score a convincing win.
The vid doesnt show both his scoring wave sunless you click on the heat summary at bottom left..theres some highlights of his lightning quick , backhand rage.
http://quiksilverlive.com/progoldcoast/2012/heat_review.en.html#quality=med&round=205&heat=293Travis has Taj in Rnd three. I am pretty sure he will ride the same boards (tajs old board) against him again. In France last year Travis pretty much beat Taj on that board, but the judges saw otherwise..fun drama. - CJ went out on one of his 5'7 Grockets in Rnd2 and , in my opinion, shoulda won against Kieran perrow. KP got the good tubes, but CJ was kinda going nuts with tight , explosive Backside snaps. At times the board looked a bit short n wide, but CJ told me that people have seen him on 5'10 round tails for long enough and he wants to have fun and ride different equipment.
http://quiksilverlive.com/progoldcoast/2012/heat_review.en.html#quality=med&round=305&heat=339 - Kolohe came back with some force and beat out Brett Simpson in a heat where both of them launched some crazy airs. I was most stoked on the tight clean arcs on Kolohes carves actually.
